Excerpt from History Eastern Vermont
I cannot but indulge a hope that not only those who still remain among the hills and valleys of their native state, but those also who have wandered from the old roof-tree to find a home in the different sections of the Union, may receive some gratification from the perusal of the history of their ancestors.

Vermont history from a different perspective. Eastern Vermont was sympathetic to New York, only grudgingly accepted independence, and didn't take to the "bennington mob" for a long time. Ethan Allen had to subdue an attempted revolt in Guilford. This is a very old book (1850) and it can be tedious because the author included everything in his notes, worthwhile or not. Want to know who manned Fort Dummer in 1725. Read this book! There was a civil war soldier of this name who enlisted from Tinmouth. He deserted twice, served in the Army and the Navy under different names, and wasn't unmasked until 1917. Not the same one though.
