Mozart The Man and the Artist; as Revealed in His Own Words Friedrich Kerst 9781374873674 Books
While it was interesting to read his own words, for some unfathomable reason, the author placed the information setting the context for the quotesAFTER the quotes! This was one disturbing aspect for readers. The other is that by categorizing the quotes, there was no continuity represented in Mozart's progression of thoughts. I have never written a book but I am quite sure I could have made a better job of arrangement of material. I would not recommend this book.

Mozart The Man and the Artist; as Revealed in His Own Words Friedrich Kerst 9781374873674 Books Reviews
A fine collection of pertinent and inciting anecdotes of the true words of Mozart lifted from his letters. Here we see who the man was and are given an intimate look at his personality, beliefs and philosophy. An entertaining read at the least.
Krehbiel's edition of these letters is now (I gather) regarded as filled with information now known to be incorrect (his description of Mozart's interactions with Colloredo is unnuanced, for example.) 3.5 stars at best really.
This book is long and detailed, but is dry and lacking in personal stories that would bring the characters to life. The writing is chronological and done at arms length, with lots of facts, facts and facts...rather boring. But the writing is thorough and a great source of information for technical data junkies.
I can highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the man Mozart as well as his music. It gives a fair insight into the way he processed things and constructed his music. More important though is that it tells us more about the events and feelings of his life from the man himself. Sometimes bringing a deeper insight into his works. Definitely a good read for those who love his music and history lovers that care for more than just the events but the people too.
Im so thankful to learn the true story of the life of my beloved Mozart. Fills me with joy to find he was not only the greatest composer of his time, but a complex soul who was not just a dependant but determined to see those he loved cheered and not pitying him. Oh to have been near him in life.!
For anyone desiring to know and understand the life and works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart this would be a great place to begin. What a fabulous thought to publish his letters as an incite. Wonderfully done!
Seems like every book is stamped New York Times best seller list. But this one truly is. If you care about your education and understanding of life get this book. With the expanded and better understanding of who we are and where we came from and are going it's like coming out of some dimly lit place into the sunlight. Many of you opinions will change. You'll be able to offer up stimulating conversation topics that will amaze and impress people. You'll be able to talk from a higher level. Even if you've only finished a lower level education people will say 'gee are you a PhD or something?"
